Student Accomplishments for Summer 2007

GRADUATE STUDENTS

TOM MATTHEWS (recent MFA graduate in sculpture from San Diego, CA) has had a sculpture piece selected into the Metal Arts 2007 exhibition at The Ellen Noël Museum in Odessa.  The juror for the exhibition was Patricia Meadows, Vice President, Hall Financial Group and curator of the Texas Sculpture Garden collection in Frisco, TX.

WESLEY HARVEY (recent MFA graduate in ceramics from Van Buren, IN) had a ceramic work selected into The Fourth Annual Marge Brown Kalodner Graduate Student Exhibition presented in July at The Clay Studio in Philadelphia, PA.  During summer h was awarded a Robert Rauschenberg's Change, Inc. grant of $900 to cover costs of setting up a new studio.  Wesley is one of the artists included in the group exhibition 2007 Clay Invitational:  Alternative Firings presented at the G Gallery in Houston in August.

LESLIE LEWIS (2nd year MFA student in jewelry design and metalsmithing from Lubbock) received an Honorable Mention award in the Small Metals category of the 2007 Metal Art exhibition at the Ellen Noel Museum in Odessa.  Juror for the exhibition was Patricia Meadows, Curator of the Texas Sculpture Garden in Frisco.

ANDY MOON (1st year MFA student in ceramics from Toledo, OH) has had a piece entitled Baggage and Duster accepted into the Biennial 600:  CLAY at the Amarillo Museum of Art.  The work will be on display during the summer exhibition.

DRYDEN WELLS (2nd year MFA student in ceramics from St. Louis) has had a piece entitled In or Out? accepted into the Biennial 600:  CLAY at the Amarillo Museum of Art.  The work will be on display during the summer exhibition.  Dryden is one of the artists included in the group exhibition 2007 Clay Invitational:  Alternative Firings presented at the G Gallery in Houston in August.

WILLIAM WITTE (third year MFA candidate in painting) will have a solo exhibition of his recent paintings at the M2 Gallery in Houston in August.

UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

LAUREN BOLDON (senior in sculpture and photography from Houston), has received a prestigious award from The Arch and Anne Giles Kimbrough Fund administered by the Dallas Museum of Art.  The $3,500 award will be used by Lauren to develop and present a kinetic sculpture exhibit installation this coming fall.

PIOTR CHIZINSKI (senior in sculpture and photography from Falls Village, CT) will have a solo exhibition of his recent work at the Red Bud Gallery in Houston in June.

JOEL KISER (a recent graduate in sculpture) received a Merit Award in Casting for his piece selected into the 2007 Metal Art exhibition at the Ellen Noel Museum in Odessa.  Juror for the exhibition was Patricia Meadows, Curator of the Texas Sculpture Garden in Frisco.

STEFANIE PEPPING (senior communication design major from Sugarland) had a poster selected for exhibition in the 2007 Adobe Design Achievement Awards Show in San Jose, CA.

ROBERT PETERSON (senior in sculpture) received a Craftsmanship Award for his piece selected into the 2007 Metal Art exhibition at the Ellen Noel Museum in Odessa.  Juror for the exhibition was Patricia Meadows, Curator of the Texas Sculpture Garden in Frisco.

RENE ROCHA and PATRICK SCHNEIDER (seniors in visual studies with emphasis in painting + drawing) exhibited together at the Art Depot Gallery, Lubbock during the August First Friday Art Trail.

ASHLEY SHIELDS (senior in communication design from Garland) received a summer internship at the Dallas Museum of Art.  Ashley was also recently recognized at the National DSVC Student Design Competition.  Her poster, Tallgrass Film Festival, won Best in Category at the 2007 Awards Ceremony and Exhibition.
