Student Accomplishments, Summer-Fall 2013


VICTORIA MARIE BEE, MFA candidate in photography, had three artworks from the What Remains series and one poem published in Barely South Review (Old Dominion University, Fall 2013).  She had two of her poems published in THE BOILER (a journal of new literature) (New York, NY, Fall 2013).

JAMES CHASE, MFA candidate in printmaking, had a solo exhibition titled Kill the Lights: New Works by James Chase at South Plains College Fine Arts Gallery in Levelland, TX (August 11th – October 11th). James participated in the Over My Head: 2nd Annual Bad Acids Print Exchange Portfolio Exhibition at Grindstone Lithography Workshop and Press in Columbia, Missouri (October 5 – 27, 2013).

ALBERTO CAREAGA, MFA candidate in Studio Art, had one painting selected into the “Fifth Annual Juried Exhibition: Benefitting Buffalo Bayou Project” which was presented at the Archway Gallery in Houston, TX in late July. He also had an artwork accepted into Dissociative: Pushing Against the Norm presented at Wichita State University Shift Space (Oct 30 – Nov 20, 2013).

HANNAH COLLINS, MFA candidate in Studio Art, was the featured alumni artist, with a solo-exhibition titled Portraits and Supplements, during “Family Weekend” at Lubbock Christian University Center for Academic Achievement in October.

CAROL CUNNINGHAM, MFA candidate in Studio Art, is a Runner-Up in the category of Fine Art: Student in Creative Quarterly 33, The Journal of Art & Design (winter 2013 issue).

JASON DEROUIN, doctoral student in the Fine Arts PhD Program – Art, presented a paper titled “Bachelor Culture Spectacle” at the School of Visual Arts, New York, NY during the Critical Information Graduate Student Conference (December 8th).

AMANDA McCATHERINE and ALEXANDRA BROWN, art history seniors, were selected into the docents training program of the Museum of Texas Tech; they will serve August through November.

YASAMAN MOUSSAVI, MFA candidate in painting, won “Best of Show” in the TASA Student Exhibition during the TASA Conference hosted by Lone Star College in Houston (Oct 10-13, 2013).

DIANA PEMBERTON, senior BFA Studio Art student, has won a Study Abroad Competitive Scholarship from the TTU Study Abroad Office to study in Europe this coming semester.

OLGA POSAZHENNIKOVA, MA student in Art History, presentED a paper entitled “The Naples Moralized Bible and Angevin Royal Propaganda” at the Texas Medieval Association annual meeting being held at WTAMU in Canyon, TX, September 27-28, 2013.

BRYAN E. WHEELER, doctoral candidate in the Fine Arts Doctoral Program – Art, has been awarded the Berti Ketner Dissertation Fellowship 2013-2014 for Interdisciplinary Research for his project on Texas Post Office Murals.

BETHANY WOOD, senior student in jewelry-metals, received a $1,500 scholarship in June from the New York based Women’s Jewelry Association for the 2013-2014 academic year. A panel of 27 jurors reviewed work by students from across the USA to arrive at the scholarship winners.
