Future Akins-Tillett has a Masters of Fine Arts degree in printmaking.  She is an Associate Professor of Art at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas and is the coordinator of the Master of Art Education program. She has taught at the university level for eleven years, following four years as public school art teacher, seven years as a caregiver for her father and eight years working in museums. She is a practicing artist working with textiles and printmaking. Akins-Tillett has given presentations in Puebla, Mexico (2001, 1993), Edinburg, Scotland (2006), Ponce, Puerto Rico (2008), as well as presentations at NAEA Conferences (2004, 2006, 2008), International Fine Arts Deans Conference (2009) and TAEA (2007, 2009, 2010). She has been published in Art Education for Social Justice (2008), TRENDS (2009), The International Journal of Arts and Society, Democracy and Education (2004), Studies in Art Education (2004) and Radical Teacher (2003). Her research both written and visually uses autobiographical story telling as an invitation to the transformative possibility of creative practice within contemporary social and political issues.
