Francisco Ortega, Ph.D.
Francisco Ortega-Grimaldo began his professional career as a graphic designer working for the Model Institutions for Excellence (MIE) Program, an initiative created by the National Science Foundation. At the same time, he also freelance for many education programs in the US and in México, and taught at the New Mexico State University. As part of the first generation (2000) of SWEAT (http://www.sudor.net/) a collaborative dedicated to making socially conscious videogames, he worked in partnership on the design of the digital games Crosser and La Migra, which have received international acclaim. His game Crossing the Bridge has been presented at the UTEP library, Mexic-Arte Museum in Austin, TX, and has a permanent display at the Inter-American and Border Studies Center (UTEP). In addition, he is working on his doctoral degree and presenting papers on the importance of games as social discourse.
