Graduate Student Scholarships and Financial Aid

The TTU School of Art offers competitive scholarships and assistantships for Ph.D., MFA and MAE and MA Art History students. These may be re-applied for each year. Scholarships are generally between $1,000 and $2,000 per year.  A $1,000 scholarship is currently sufficient to qualify non-resident students for in-state tuition for the regular fall and spring terms. Currently, this is a savings of over $7,000 per year over out-of-state tuition and fees based on enrollment in 12 credit hours.

Assistantships for incoming masters students can be either Graduate Assistantships (responsibilities supportive of the general mission of the program such as lab techs, Visual Resources Center assistants, Gallery assistants, etc.) or Teaching Assistantships (direct participation in the teaching mission of the program, normally in the form of assisting faculty in teaching courses). Assistantship awards are for the nine-month school year (fall semester and  spring semester), at either quarter-time or half-time (half-time is the maximum allowable).  Assistants are scheduled for 10 hours of work per week for quarter-time appointments and 20 hours per week for half-time.  The pay is $3,675 per year per quarter-time award, so current first-year students with the maximum allowable half-time Teaching Assistantship receive $7,350 per year for their work during the fall and spring terms.  In addition, half-time appointments further reduce tuition and fees by over $3,000 per year based on enrollment in 12 credit hours.

The School of Art faculty regularly nominate a few outstanding applicants to our graduate programs for the AT&T Chancellor's Fellowships, which are a one-year award of $3,000 given by the Texas Tech University Graduate School.  We have recently averaged between two and three MFA recipients of this award per year.

Various graduate scholarships are also available through the College of Visual and Performing Arts. Click to view.
