I am a flamboyant zoologist. Growing up on a farm in Southwest Oklahoma I have always had a deep love for animals and nature. My work focuses on the animal/human interaction. Using history, metaphor and juxtaposition I draw parallels – highlighting our interaction with animals and how we transform them into kitsch, frequently mundane, consumer objects. I emphasize the use of animals as a form of bourgeois entertainment and the patterns/reoccurrence of this act throughout history, beginning with Cabinets of Curiosities. Often my research leads me to explore structures that confine animals for our enjoyment, remnants yard sales, and the mass market.
