Joel Whitaker :: Cities
March 18 - April 14, 2013

The Cities portfolio by Joel Whitaker explores the intersections of the photographic medium with that of others, particularly drawing and sculpture. He uses the photographic process as a way to engage in various methodologies regarding the act of art making. Working with glass plate negatives of aerial views of cities, Whitaker scans the objects incorporating motion and other physical interactions. The resulting imagery is as much about the photographic process as a reflection of his relationship with the idea and physical form of a city.

Joel Whitaker is a Professor at the University of Dayton, Ohio, holds an MFA from Florida State University, Tallahassee, and exhibits nationally.

Exhibitions and visiting speakers programs at the School of Art are supported by generous grants from the Helen Jones Foundation and The CH Foundation, both of Lubbock.  Additional support comes from Cultural Activities Fees administered through the College of Visual & Performing Arts.
