Two Full-Time Tenure-Track Positions Open in CECE
The Civil, Environmental, and Construction Engineering (CECE) Department invite applications for a full-time tenure-track position in the general area of Environmental Engineering. More information can be found here.

Dr. Hoyoung Seo Awarded Research Grant
Dr. Hoyoung Seo Awarded Research Grant
Dr. Hoyoung Seo, assistant professor of civil engineering was awarded a research grant by United States Universities Council on Geotechnical Education and Research (USUCGER). The grant aims to develop a library of demonstration activities to create ‘aha moments’ in classrooms and learning modules associated with the activities. USUCGER is a national organization among academicians in the geotechnical engineering area, and the learning modules will be disseminated nation-wide through USUCGER.


Dr. Hoyoung Seo First Runner-Up in DFI
Dr. Hoyoung Seo First Runner-Up in DFI
Dr. Seo also won the First Runner-Up Award in the 2017 Deep Foundation Institute (DFI) Educational Trust Young Professor Paper Competition. The paper he wrote with his Ph.D. student presented visualization of soil plugging process during the installation of pile foundation through high-quality model pile testing.


Dr. Venki Uddameri Named Editor-in-Chief of JAWRA
Dr. Venki Uddameri Named Editor-in-Chief of JAWRA
Dr. Venki Uddameri, Professor of Civil Engineering has been named Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the American Water Resources Association (JAWRA). Dr. Uddameri will begin his term January 2018. JAWRA, formerly known as the Water Resources Bulletin, is an interdisciplinary journal known for its broad audience spanning the fields of water resources engineering, the environmental sciences as well as the geosciences.


Dr. Xinzhong Chen Wins Jack Cermak Medal
Dr. Xinzhong Chen Wins Jack Cermak Medal
Dr. Xinzhong Chen, Professor of Civil Engineering has been named the 2017 winner of the Jack Cermak medal for work in advancing wind engineering through advanced modeling and analysis approaches for wind load effects on structures, such as high-rise buildings, long-span bridges and wind turbines. The Cermak medal is a recognition of the elite in the world in wind engineering. Tech has two Cermak medalists now in Dr. Xinzhong Chen and Dr. Kishor Mehta.


Dr. Ted Cleveland Awarded for Outstanding Teaching
Dr. Ted Cleveland Awarded for Outstanding Teaching
Dr. Ted Cleveland, Associate Professor of Civil Engineering has been recognized with the George T. and Gladys Abell-Hanger Faculty Award For Outstanding Graduate or Undergraduate Teaching in the Whitacre College of Engineering. Dr. Cleveland joins a pantheon of great CECE teachers who have been recognized for exceptional teaching in the college and on campus over the years.
