MISSION STATEMENT
The Student Counseling Center (SCC) promotes student success.
VISION
The Student Counseling Center (SCC) aspires to American Psychological Association standards of excellence in practice for its provision of student psychological services and accreditation standards for clinical supervision of professionals-in-training.
VALUES

• The importance of balancing academic, personal, and social pursuits;
• The integrity and responsibility of individual choice;
• Self-knowledge and self-efficacy; and
• Advocating for social justice and human dignity.
LEARNING & ENGAGEMENT OUTCOMES
Holistic Wellness: The SCC will promote the holistic wellness of the TTU student population by providing programs, facilities, and/or services which contribute to healthy emotional, physical, mental, and academic development. Assessed via: 1) Student Evaluation of Services; 2) Student evaluations of various Outreach Programming events; 3) Student Needs Assessment (completed every 5 years)
Goal 1. Access and Diversity: Increase awareness of the availability of psychological services for all students, and increase services to and understanding of the broad spectrum of our diverse campus community.
Key Performance Indicators:
- #1: All TTU students will exhibit awareness of available SCC services.
Objective 1.1: Provide comprehensive access to SCC services and increase campus-wide awareness of mental health services. (for Key Performance Indicator #1)
Strategies:
- Explore alternative and additional advertising/publicity for SCC services.
- Explore possible improvements to web-based information and services (e.g., Facebook, Twitter; Self-Help Videos).
- Explore possible improvements to consultation and liaison relationships with residence halls, faculty/staff and student organizations.
- Expand outreach programming offerings related to diversity.
Goal 2. Human Resources and Infrastructure: Increase and use resources to recruit and retain quality staff to support an optimal work environment.
Key Performance Indicators:
- #1: Increase efficiency and effectiveness of office operations.
- #2: Acquire and update necessary audio/visual and computer equipment for in-house training and outreach program.
- #3: Obtain appropriate technical support to provide necessary clinical services.
Objective 2.1: Recruit and Retain a High Quality Professional Staff. (for Key Performance Indicator #1)
Strategies:
- Provide salary structure comparable to Big XII, APA-accredited counseling centers in Texas.
- Facilitate accomplishment of appropriate state licensure for all professional staff.
Objective 2.2: Enhance efficiency of departmental clinical procedures (for Key Performance Indicator #1)
Strategies:
- Explore options for paperless clinical files
Objective 2.3: Update and Maintain Computer Hardware/Software and Audio/Visual Equipment to Provide Necessary Clinical Services (for Key Performance Indicator #2 and #3)
Strategies:
- Refine procedures for updating website content.
Goal 3. Teaching and Learning: Enhance the undergraduate and graduate student learning experience by implementing nationally recognized standards in departmental services, programs and facilities.
Key Performance Indicators:
- #1: Adhere to the highest ethical standards of professionalism in service delivery and agency functioning resulting in no violations of the APA Ethical Code.
- #2: All graduate practicum students report satisfaction with training experiences at the SCC.
Objective 3.1: Maintain highest standards for professionalism, service delivery, and agency functioning. (for Key Performance Indicator #1)
Strategies:
- Increase response rates to client satisfaction surveys.
- Incorporate client satisfaction survey information into services and programs through review of results 3x annually.
- Incorporate Student Needs Assessment results to enhance services and programs.
Objective 3.2: Provide Quality Services Learning Experience in Counseling Center Practices for Texas Tech Graduate Practicum Students. (for Key Performance Indicator #2)
Strategies:
- Evaluate effectiveness of optional group therapy training experiences for practicum students.
Goal 4. Engagement: Provide mental health services and educational outreach opportunities that contribute to student learning and critical thinking, and that benefit the student body and campus community.
Key Performance Indicators:
- #1: 75% of students completing post-counseling satisfaction survey report that services positively impacted their mental health, academic success and continued enrollment.
Objective 4.1: Address Mental Health and Adjustment Concerns Relevant to Student Academic Performance and Retention. (for Key Performance Indicator #1)
Strategies:
- Explore alternatives to increase student usage of Mind/Body Lab services.
- Review and utilize departmental research results (e.g., Student Needs Assessment) to improve SCC services.
- Increase response rates to client satisfaction surveys; utilize results to improve SCC services.
Goal 5: Partnerships: Build strategic partnerships and collaborations with local and campus community.
Key Performance Indicators:
- #1: Increase number of students seeking SCC services as a direct result of campus community referrals.
Objective 5.1: Establish collaborative alliances with campus community to facilitate the provision of holistic wellness services to students and to increase student retention. (for Key Performance Indicator #1)
Strategies:
- Initiate campus-wide dissemination of QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) training for suicide prevention.
- Continue to implement recent initiatives to increase veterans’ use of SCC services (e.g., website info; support group)
- Utilize new structure of departmental outreach efforts (i.e., theme-specific outreach teams) to initiate more contact with TTU faculty members.
- Continue to increase departmental visibility with University Student Housing staff
