Dear Red Raiders,

What an amazing time to be a part of Texas Tech! I feel so honored to serve as a student body leader. I have been raised in Lubbock the past 21 years and have always been fascinated with the idea of one day becoming a Red Raider. I have seen so many amazing things happen on this campus that it has been a dream of mine to make an impact as well. I want to make everyone’s degree at Texas Tech worth more. We are at an age where the job market is getting ever more competitive and your educational experience at Texas Tech should classify you (as we like to say it in West Texas) “the cream of the crop”. I believe these changes will come about through the students. Your needs, success, and drive will put Texas Tech on the map. The Student Senate this year will be working on hearing your needs, developing a solution, and fighting for that change. I will be mobilizing the Senate in all areas of your educational experience so we can be as productive and efficient as possible.

The Student Senate is a very important branch of student government. An amazing group of 68 senators have been elected to serve their fellow students. I am very excited to work with these senators in that they have already expressed immense interest in making changes in and around campus. Last year there was an emphasis on communication, making sure that the Senators were meeting with the various student organizations. This year we are building on communication around campus but also within the office. I believe that teamwork and utilizing each other’s strengths will make us the most successful Senate.

There is no doubt that our main goal this year is for Tech to become a tier one university, so my initiative is to increase retention on our campus. 40,000 by 2020 have been pushed every year but our success comes through keeping the students that we already have. Accomplishing this will come from hearing your needs and keeping the small school feel. I wish I could express to all of you just how much our administration listens to the student’s needs. We are so fortunate to have such an empowering voice when it comes to making decisions. All of us in student government want to hear your voice to offer to administration. Please, if you have any concerns or questions come by my office in the 3 rd floor of the student union building or send me or your respective senator an e-mail.

Again, thank you for allowing me to serve you in this position. It is going to be an unforgettable year.

Long live the Matadors!
