Every other year, students from AAEC join with cadets from the United States Military Academy at West Point to learn about agricultural and economic development in Ethiopia.

The students get to travel over Ethiopia to see different farming practices in both highlands and desert environments. We explore technological innovation such as the use of solar and wind to generate electricity and move water to reduce the time it takes families to get drinking water. We also see the use of inexpensive techniques like passive solar driers to process food and reduce food waste and hunger.

And, of course, we get to see cultural and regional sites like Nile River hippos, the UNESCO stone churches of Lalibela, and the palaces of the Queen of Sheba. Our trip culminates with a visit to the United States African Command in Stuttgart, Germany to learn about military and diplomatic issues in development in Africa, with a fun, but educational, relaxing trip to Munich, Germany where we visit the Dachau concentration camp and sample local German cuisine.
