School of Theatre and Dance
Beth Scheckel (806) 742 -3601 x 236
Entrance to the BFA in Theatre Arts program is by audition and interview. Students usually audition for the program in their sophomore year and are admitted at the discretion of the faculty. Continuance in the program is dependent upon annual review and the faculty’s assessment of the student’s timely progress. Students whose progress is found unsatisfactory will be placed on departmental probation. Departmental probationary students who fail to improve will be removed from the program.
School of Music
Linda Gregston (806) 742 -2230
Provisional acceptance into a major in music is based upon a combination of auditions, transcripts, entrance examinations, and/or interviews, depending upon the specific major. Admission to Texas Tech University does not guarantee admission to the School of Music as a music major. All entering students must audition in their declared principal applied area with the appropriate faculty. Final acceptance into any music program is based upon formal auditions in the appropriate applied and ensemble areas.
School of Art
Ryan Scheckel(806) 742 -3825 x 222
Students wishing to major in Design Communication start out as Art Undecided. Design Communication is a limited access program. Majors are selected each year in the spring semester by a selective portfolio review which leads to a series of carefully sequenced classes. Admission to the program is obtained through an application process. Admission to Texas Tech University does not insure admission to the Design Communication program. The application form may be downloaded at www.art.ttu.edu. See the web site for detailed information and deadlines. Design Communication majors must achieve at least a B in all Design Communication classes. Each class may be retaken one time. If a B still has not been earned, the student will be removed from the major.
Teacher Education
Students wishing to major in Visual Studies (Art Education) or Music (Music Education) must have an adjusted 2.5 GPA in order to be eligible to apply for admittance into the Teacher Education sequence.
