In addition to the classes listed, there are instances where a class
is designed for a specific audience. Information about those classes
will not be found here. Details will be sent to the selected
audience in an e-mail message.
Financial Management
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT 101
Title : Introduction to FOAP Codes
Will you be an authorized signer or business manager for a fund (fund manager, etc)? Or, for a budget (FOP manager, etc)? This class will introduce you to Texas Tech’s fund structure and the guidelines for managing your funds and budgets. At the end of class, you will be able to
- Describe the codes in the FOAP string and define the purpose for each code
- Research the guidelines for the funds and/or FOPs that you manage
- Research the appropriate Account codes for entering receipts or expenditures
- List the fiduciary responsibilities of a fund and/or a FOP manager
Who should attend? Authorized signers for funds and FOPs, such as Fund Managers, FOP Managers, Business Managers and Department Heads. In addition, the class should be attended by any administrative employee whose work includes transaction and FOAP data entry.
Pre-requisite: For admission to the class, the participants should bring a list of the FOPs that they will be using.
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT 102
In this class, a review of the following financial transactions is provided: Cost Transfers, Cash Receipts, Journal Vouchers and Budget Revisions. Details about financial procedures is provided and the new forms that will be used are shown and explained during this session. There is also an explanation of the activities that will take place at the end of this fiscal year, including how things will transition to Banner (i.e. budgets, PO’s, etc.)
Who should attend? Anyone who completes finance forms or needs to know updated finance procedures – Business Managers, Fund and/or Organization Managers or any administrative employee whose work includes finance transactions.
Introduction to Reporting
This class introduces key finance reports that have been written using the Cognos 8 business intelligence software (similar to today’s Dashboard) to help you track transactions affecting a fund, FOP or FOAP. Provided during this class is instruction on how to access the system, select the parameters as well as printing and saving reports. Additionally, definitions of the various fields within a report will be provided. A pre-requisite to this class is Financial Management 101.
TechBuy Training Classes
TechBuy Shopper/Phase I
TechBuy Shopper Training
If you are looking for Phase I TechBuy Training, this is the class for you. It is offered for those who have no approval authority and will have the role of shopper in TechBuy. This class introduces the user to the TechBuy system and provide opportunity to practice within a test environment. This class is currently being offered and will continue into September and then as needed thereafter.
TechBuy Phase II
Do you need to enter a purchase order for fiscal year 2009? This class will teach you:
- How to enter FY09 purchase orders
- How to Register an individual to use the TechBuy system
- TechBuy Approval Process
- TechBuy Review of pending and processed orders
- How to enter receiving against your FY09 orders
Who Should Attend? All those who prepare purchase orders, approve orders and/or review departmental purchases.
Note: If you will only shop in TechBuy (no approval authority), you need to take TechBuy Shopper training. If you will only be approving in TechBuy, you need to take TechBuy Approver Training.
TechBuy for the Approver
Do you need to approve a purchase requisition processed in TechBuy or register an individual to use TechBuy? This class will provide the registration and approval processes within TechBuy and show you where to view transactions processed within your department or by an individual.
