AFS Highlights Academic and Leadership of Graduating Seniors

seal-at-nightEach year the Department of Animal & Food Sciences highlights the outstanding academic and extracurricular performances of students throughout their tenure at Texas Tech University. "This group of students is truly outstanding," stated Associate Chair Chance Brooks, Ph.D. "The department wishes to thank all of them for their efforts over the past few years and wish them the best in the future."

This year the department is recognizing 20 students for academic performance during their undergraduate career. These students include Allie Martin, Animal Science - Science Concentration; Bailey Wilson, Animal Science - Science Concentration; Brindi Wilson, Animal Science - Science Concentration; Britt Dixon, Animal Science - Pre-Vet Concentration; Christopher Asleson, Animal Science - Science Concentration; Floyd Pirtle, Animal Science - Science Concentration; Hailey Buegeler, Animal Science - Pre-Vet Concentration; Jacob Johnson, Animal Science - Science Concentration; Jeyson Price, Animal Science - Science Concentration; John Chandler Sarchet, Animal Science - Science Concentration; Kashley Seitz, Animal Science - Equine Production Concentration; Kayla Wallace, Animal Science - Science Concentration; Koby Valentine, Animal Science - Animal Business Concentration; Madison Shults, Animal Science - Science Concentration; Micaiah Bradford, Animal Science - Companion Animal Science Concentration; Rafe Royall, Animal Science - Science Concentration; Sean Szalczer, Animal Science - Science Concentration; Shayna Smith, Animal Science - Production Concentration; Shelby Henderson, Animal Science - Science Concentration; and Stetson Bryson, Animal Science - Animal Business Concentration.

The department also recognizes those students who have contributed outstanding leadership to Texas Tech University through club, extracurricular and campus involvement. Graysen Gilbraith, Animal Science - Animal Business Concentration and Travis Tilton, Animal Science - Meat Science Concentration were chosen for this recognition.

Students being recognized for both academic and leadership performance include: Caley Ellington, Animal Science - Pre-Vet Concentration; Cole Perkins, Food Science - Science Concentration; Emma Mortensen, Animal Science - Meat Science Concentration; and Megan Eckhardt, Animal Science - Meat Science Business Concentration. 

Finally, the faculty chose one student in food science and one student in animal science as the Outstanding Overall Student in each discipline. This year the department recognizes Cole Perkins in food science and Emma Mortensen in animal science. Mortensen was chosen as the Overall Outstanding Undergraduate Student and represented the department at the college level.
