Competitions

The Texas Tech Ranch Horse Team competes in Stock Horse of Texas (SHTX), American Stock Horse Association (ASHA) and the National Reined Cow Horse Association NRCHA). Members compete on their own horses in three different divisions: Open/Non-Pro, Limited Non-Pro and Novice. 

ASHA and SHTX shows consist of four events: Ranch Pleasure, Reining, Trail and Working Cow Horse. These events give competitors the opportunity to show the versatility of their horses through each event.

NRCHA invites three members from each collegiate team to compete in the NRCHA Collegiate Invitational in February at the NRCHA World Show. Team members will compete in Reining and Working Cow Horse. 

The ranch horse team also competes in an annual Collegiate Ranch Rodeo Showdown hosted by the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo. Ranch horse team members team up rodeo team members to compete in various ranch rodeo competitions for their shot at winning a stock trailer.
