Equine-Assisted Counseling and Wellness Clinic

services

The Equine-Assisted Counseling and Wellness (EACW) clinic provides Equine-Assisted Mental Health (EAMH) services at the Texas Tech Therapeutic Riding Center. EAMH services involve horses helping humans accomplish their mental health and wellness goals with the guidance of a qualified mental healthcare professional. EAMH interventions are designed to help individuals and groups gain new awareness and skills for successfully navigating social, emotional, academic, or career-related concerns. Sessions generally involve ground-based interactions with horses, and are often provided as a brief intervention, or in time-limited format.

EAMH services are most commonly incorporated into treatment for the following issues:

  • Self-esteem
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Trauma recovery
  • Grief and loss
  • Work or academic-related stress
  • Interpersonal relationships
