Annual Meeting

The Agricultural Education & Communications Alumni Association has an annual meeting and it is usually held after the Homecoming breakfast each year.  This year is no exception and we invite everyone to attend on October 10th.  The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. or soon after the Homecoming breakfast is over.  It will be held in the Animal and Food Sciences Building conference room 103B.  We also invite everyone to attend the Homecoming Breakfast that starts at 8 a.m. in the Livestock Arena.

The AEC Department will also host a Tailgate Party starting at 3 p.m. on the south side of the AFS Building.

Annual Reception

The Texas Tech Agricultural Education & Communications Alumni held their annual reception in conjunction with the State Agri-Science Teacher’s Conference, on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 in Lubbock, Texas.

Over 200 members and guests enjoyed a barbeque meal catered by Cagle’s Steakhouse at the Ranching Heritage Center. The event is sponsored by the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, the Department of Agricultural Education & Communications and the College of Outreach and Distance Education.

Each year the teacher’s conference is held in a different area of Texas and the Agricultural Education and Communications graduates have an opportunity to attend and join the alumni association.  We are pleased to announce that this year we added 5 new life members and 16 new members joined.  The association membership has now grown to 703 and the life membership is at 229.

The funds generated from the dues that members pay, have contributed to the Agricultural Education & Communications Alumni Association Endowment Fund to reach over $120,000.  This has allowed many students to receive scholarships as a result of these funds.  This year we will award 13 scholarships bringing the total of scholarships awarded to 124 for a total of $33,295.00 since the first 3 scholarships were awarded in 1995.

At this year’s reception in addition to the traditional exchange of year’s activities and stories to share from past years, recognition was given to graduates from the 1950’s especially those  that taught vocational agriculture in the area.

History

Several have mentioned that they were not aware that we had an Agricultural Education & Communications Alumni Association.  It is alive and well and continues to grow.  Please consider joining!

The association began in 1990.  Each year a reception has been held at the State Agri-Science Teacher's Conference with the first one being held in Amarillo, Texas.  Next summer the reception will be at Galveston, Texas.  Details will be available closer to the time of the event.  Be on the lookout for that information on our website.

We have also participated in the Texas AgriLife Extension Conference and the Regional Agricultural Communications Conference. 

Last year we had the 1st annual Alumni Tailgate gathering at one of the TTU home games.  This year it will be held during the Homecoming game on October 10th at the southwest corner of the Livestock Arena.  More details will be on our website.

Officer elections are held every three years and the association has a Constitution and Bylaws in place.
