Helen Barela
Doctoral Student, Agricultural Education
Ms. Barela is pursuing her Doctoral studies in Agricultural Education. She earned an M.S. in Agricultural Economics from Oklahoma State University and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Economics-Quantitative Option along with a Minor in Management from New Mexico State University. Throughout her lifetime she has been involved in various wholesale/retail businesses and community non-profit organizations.
Ms.Barela’s duties include assisting several professors both departmental and inter-departmental in distance education efforts and assisting Dr. Todd Brashears with various classes as a Teaching and Research Assistant.
Ms.Barela’s research interests include: cultural aspects/concerns integrated with curriculum development, ag leadership, leadership styles, ethics/fairness/diversity and teamwork within organizations, as well as the regulatory environment of businesses.
Ms. Barela has been recognized for university/community involvement and scholarly achievements that earned her numerous awards/scholarshipsincluding Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges & Universities and National Dean’s Honor List (2006). Ms. Barela serves as a TTU-Chancellor’s Ambassador, vice-president of the TTU Agricultural Education & Communications Graduate Organization, and is involved in other several other TTU Organizations. She also enjoys cooking and spending time with family/friends.
