Mr. Russell entered the Doctoral program at Texas Tech in January of 2008. Since begining his program, he has taught AGED 3315 Agricultural Leadership, AGED 3314 Team Leadership, and AGED 3330 Interelationships of Agricultural Agency Systems. In addition, during the fall 2008 to spring 2009 semesters, he was enrolled in the Texas Tech TEACH program and president of Agricultural Education and Communications Graduate Student Organization (AECGO).

In June of 2009, Mr. Russell became the coach/advisor for the Texas Tech Horse Judging Team and travels to various contests in Oklahoma and Ohio. Prior to becoming the Texas Tech horse judging coach, he served as the advisor for Texas Tech's chapter of Collegiate 4-H.

Mr. Russell's research interests include: developing a modified matrix analysis for developing content for educational venues, developing alternatives for conducting needs assessment, developing methods of conducting workshop evaluations, and food safety techniques for feedlot management at the pre-harvest level.

During his spare time, Mr. Russell enjoys traveling to horse shows for judging and showing in various performance events.
