Prior to teaching high school, Mrs. Shultz worked in College of Agriculture Communications Services for Iowa State University. She wrote press releases, wrote content for the college Web site and coordinated the inaugural year of AWE, a student program designed to give non-farm students within the College of Agriculture at Iowa State the opportunity to experience Iowa farm life hands-on. The program is now in its sixth year.

Mrs. Shultz was raised on a diversified crop and livestock family farm in Southern Iowa. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University and was the Featured Student Speaker at the Fall 2004 ISU College of Agriculture Convocation. In her spare time, she enjoys running, riding horses, and training her dog, a Smooth Border Collie mix named Tippy, to do tricks. Mrs. Shultz’s husband, Matthew, is currently deployed to Afghanistan.
