2008 Holiday Open House . On Dec. 16, CASNR’s faculty, staff and students, along with our friends across the Tech campus, gathered at the Goddard Building for our Annual Dean’s Office Christmas Open House. CASNR Homecoming Breakfast 2008. Alumni of Texas Tech University’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources got a warm welcome Oct. 11 as the graduates, young and old, celebrated the college’s annual Homecoming Breakfast festivities at the livestock arena behind the Animal and Food Sciences Building in Lubbock.   Learn More >>

Larry Combest Endowed Chair in Agricultural Competitiveness. Texas Tech has announced the establishment of an industry-supported endowed chair to increase the competitiveness of High Plains agriculture in an economy increasingly linked to international markets. Officials also introduced Darren Hudson, an award-winning agricultural economist who is the first chair recipient.   Learn More >>

2008 CASNR Faculty Retreat. Held Aug. 20 at the United Spirit Arena, the annual event focused on learning outcome assessments, engaging students in the classroom, and CASNR development strategies. ASB Cookout. Faculty, staff and friends of Tech’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources were treated to hamburgers, sausage wraps and fried pies Aug. 22 at a ‘Back-to-School’ cookout in the cool shade of the area behind the Agricultural Sciences Building. The annual event was sponsored and staffed by professionals from American State Bank.  Learn More >>

Turfgrass Field Day. The latest in Texas Tech University’s turfgrass research, as well as information on controlling pesky problems like sandburs and grubs, highlighted the 2008 Turfgrass Field Day on Aug. 13 at the university’s Quaker Research Farm. Among the highlights were presentations on Zoysiagrass establishment and wildflowers for low maintenance landscaping.  Learn More >>

Welcome Back. The CASNR Dr. Bill Bennett Student Success Center manages the Ag Pals Program for incoming freshmen students. Upperclassmen volunteer to serve as the mentors and assist their Ag Pals with moving into the residence halls, finding classrooms, showing them around campus and the community, provide them a welcome basket, and bringing them to Ag Fest.   Learn More >>

Texas FFA Convention. Thousands of Texas FFA members traveled to Lubbock in July for the 80th annual Texas FFA Convention, where they participated in rodeos, concerts, demonstrations and award ceremonies during a week-long event at Texas Tech's United Spirit Arena. It was also an opportune time for CASNR recruiters and faculty members to be out in force along the concourse hallways.   Learn More >>

China Agriculture Study Abroad. Norman Hopper, CASNR’s Associate Dean for Academic and Student Programs, led a 15-day China Study Abroad program in June. The nine students and their chaperones began their travels in Shanghai then moved inland to visit Chinese agricultural universities and view several historic sites, including such the Great Wall of China, Forbidden City and Temple of Heaven.   Learn More >>

Gardens of Europe 2008. This summer Ellen Peffley and Cynthia McKenney escorted a group of Texas Tech students on a garden tour of France, Belgium and Luxembourg. Highlights of the tour included chateaus, gardens and World War II sites, including Le Chateau de Versailles, Le Chateau de Vaux-Le-Vicomte, Monet’s Garden, Normandy Beach, The Louvre, Parc de Tuileries and Le Jardin des Plantes.   Learn More >>

John M. Burns Reception. A reception featuring friends and guests from across the state was held for John M. Burns at Texas Tech University Merket Center.
