The Joe and Christy Hurst Scholarship Endowment was established in 2014 by Joe and Christy Hurst. The scholarship is awarded to students in the Department of Agricultural Education and Communications with preference given to students with financial need.

Joe Hurst graduated from the Department of Agricultural Education and Communications in 1979 with a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Education. He began his teaching career at Roosevelt ISD in Vocational Agriculture. The next year he returned to his family business at Hurst Farm Supply and became General Manager upon his father's death in 1987. Joe has expanded the business since then and now covers most of the South Plains area.

He is actively involved in various community organizations and stays busy volunteering his time and support. He is married to his high school sweetheart Christy and the have two sons, Jerred and Jay, two daugthers-in-law, Jennifer and Kim, and five grandchildren.

Joe has been recognized by the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources as a 2012 Outstanding Agriculturalist in the category of Agribusiness, a 2015 Distinguished Alumni, and published in feature articles in Landmarks and the Agriculturalist magazines.
