John Henry Baumgardner Memorial Endowed Scholarship

The John Henry Baumgardner Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established in 1994 by friends of John Henry Baumgardner and the Baumgardner Family, in memory of John Baumgardner, to fund a perpetual scholarship program for students majoring in Animal Science or a related field.

John Henry Baumgardner received his Bachelor of Science in Animal Production from Texas Tech University in 1939. While working on his master's degree, he was awarded the Texas Cottonseed Crusher's Association fellowship for his research in adding cottonseed meal to animals feed. In 1949, he became an addition to the Department of Animal Husbandry faculty.

John made significant contributions to the growth of the feedlot industry of West Texas and served as a consultant for cattle and sheep feedlots in the area. His research in the area of rumen feed was largely respected and he was often sought after for his intellect on animal nutrition.

John was among six brothers who all graduated from the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. His two sisters also attended Texas Tech University.
