Donnell Echols Rodeo Scholarship

The Donnell Echols Rodeo Scholarship was established by Mr. and Mrs. Donnell Echols in 2001. The scholarship is awarded undergraduate and graduate students majoring in the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources who participate on the Texas Tech University Rodeo Team.

Donnell Echols graduated from Texas Tech University in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics. He was very involved while at Texas Tech University and participated in numerous organizations, such as Agricultural Economics Association, Saddle Tramps, Interfraternity Council through Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, and served as Student Government President. His wife, Sharla, also graduated from Texas Tech University in 1959 with a degree in education. She was also quite involved and the two were elected Mr. and Mrs. Texas Tech their senior year.  They have lived in Lamesa, TX ever since graduating from Texas Tech University and continue to farm and ranch. They have three daughters: Pepper, Paige and Amber. Pepper graduated from Texas Tech University in 1981 with a degree in elementary education. Paige graduated from Texas Tech University in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and in 1986 with a Master of Science in the same field. Amber graduated from Texas Tech University in 1986 with a degree in Advertising and in 1990 with a master's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies.
