Don and Frances Morrison Meat Judging Endowed Scholarship

The Don and Frances Morrison Meat Judging Scholarship Endowment was established in 2014 by Frances Morrison to provide scholarships to members of the Meat Judging Team who demonstrate an attitude of servant leadership.

Don Morrison graduated from Texas Tech University in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Production. He returned to the Morrison family ranch north of Pampa, TX, where he grew up. Don and Frances had four sons-David, James, Frank, and Donald, Jr. David passed away at a young age from acute leukemia. James worked on the family ranch and helped run the Morrison Cattle Company. Frank attended Texas Tech University and received a degree in Agricultural Economics in 1980. He previously worked for Llano Estacado Energy and now is employed by The Coronado Project. Donald, Jr. also attended Texas Tech University and received a degree in Animal Business in 1978. Upon graduation, he returned to help run Morrison Cattle Company.

When Don passed, Frances sold her portion of the ranch and Don and James continue to run their portion. Frances was a teacher before marrying Don in Pampa, TX and then became too busy with the family ranch to continue. On her mother and father's land in Pampa, gas wells were discovered, and she inherited a large amount upon their passing. With this inheritance, she decided to establish various endowments at Texas Tech University in honor of her late husband and her two sons who are alumni. She also gave to the First United Methodist Church in Pampa and the Opportunity Plan in Canyon, TX.

Mrs. Morrison was born February 6, 1926 to Sallie and Steve Huff in Canadian. She grew up and attended schools in Allison where she graduated from Allison High School. After high school, she enrolled in Texas State College for Women in Denton. After graduating from college, Fran moved to Pampa where she would teach 4th grade at Sam Houston Elementary School. While in Pampa, she met the love of her life, Don, on a blind date, and they married June 10, 1954 in Hemphill County. Fran and Don were actively involved in Republican politics; organizing the Roberts County Republican Party and participating in many state and national party activities. They enjoyed many years of marriage on the ranch before his death on October 9, 2002.

Fran was a longtime and active member of First United Methodist Church. She was a civic minded lady who was an active member of the 20th Century Cotillion Study Club as well as other organizations. In her spare time, Fran loved to work in her flower garden. She loved antiques and traveling, as well as cooking and entertaining. She passed away August 5, 2018. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
