Rushing Family Endowed Scholarship

The Rushing Family Scholarship Endowment was established in 1992 by W.B. Rushing Family through Texas Methodist Foundation to provide scholarships to students in Animal and Food Sciences with a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Mr. W. B. "Dub" Rushing attended Texas Tech from 1927-1932, during which time he was an Architecture Design major in the College of Engineering and participated in the Architecture Student Association.  He served as President of the Texas Tech Foundation Board from 1981-1983.  He also served as President of the Ex-Students Association (1950), Director of the Texas Technological College Foundation (1966), College of Human Sciences Dean's Advisory Board Member and was member of the Chancellor's Council, Spur Society and Matador Society.  He established many endowments through the Rushing Family Foundation.

Dub was the Owner of Lubbock Commercial Buildings, a commercial real estate business. In 1934 Mr. Rushing founded the Varsity Bookstore in Lubbock, TX, and after 25 years of ownership he sold the store to his employees.  Dub served on several community boards, including Lubbock Christian University, Wayland Baptist, Carillon Senior Living Center, Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, and University Medical Center Board of Directors. Dub was the recipient of an honorary Ph.D. in Humanities from McMurry University in Abilene, TX. Dub also served in the military for 40 months during World War II.

Mr. Rushing passed away in January 2007 and his wife, Mozelle E. (Partain) Rushing, passed away in October 2002.  They have two sons, Don and Ted.
