Don Clark Endowed Scholarship

The Don Clark Scholarship Endowment was established in 1981 by the friends of Don Clark who is the Director of the Livestock Department of the State Fair of Texas. These scholarships are available for entering freshman or major in the College of Agricultural Sciences who have demonstrated good scholarship.

Donnel C. Clark graduated from Texas Tech in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education. He spent 37 years with the State Fair of Texas before he retired.

Don passed away January 2 in 2017. He was born August 4, 1925, in Cross Plains, TX to Jesse Mae (Jake) Adams Clark and Thomas Jefferson (Jeff) Clark. He graduated from Cross Plains High School in 1942, where he was active in the FFA, band and other school activities. Upon graduation, Don joined the US Army, serving in France and Germany during WWII. He was blessed by his guarding angel and was evacuated from the Ardennes Forest in Germany the second night of the Battle of the Bulge. After spending several months in Brooke General Hospital in Ft. Sam Houston, San Antonio, TX he was discharged from the service.

He attended Tarleton State College in Stephenville and graduated from Texas Tech University in 1949. While in college, he served as president of the Collegiate Chapters of the FFA both at Tarleton and Tech as well as being Vice President of the senior class at Texas Tech. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture Education and taught school for 4 years in Mullin.

Don was then employed by the State Fair of Texas for thirty-seven years, retiring as Director of Livestock. While in Dallas, he served on the Board of Directors of the YMCA, Chairman of Dallas Chamber of Commerce Agriculture Committee, became a Certified Fair Manager of the International Assn. of Fairs & Expositions, President of the Texas Association of Fairs & Expositions, member of Texas Tourist Development Agency, Athletic Director of Lakeside Baptist Church, and received an Honorary Lifetime Membership from the PTA of the Dallas ISD. For several years, he served as Treasurer of the local Kiwanis Club in Cross Plains and was active in the First Baptist Church. He was also a Master Mason.
