The Charles R. Gibson Scholarship Endowment was established by Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Gibson in 1997. This endowment will provide scholarships for undergraduate students majoring in the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources.

Charles R. Gibson graduated from Texas Tech University in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science in Entomology. Charles R. Gibson was born May 3, 1937, in Haskell County, son of the late Wilson and Ophelia Leach Gibson. Charles was a 1955 graduate of Rule High School and a 1962 graduate of Texas Tech University. In 1992, Charles received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Texas Tech, an award he was very proud to have received.

Mr. Gibson built a successful industrial chemical business, ChemFirst, in Jackson, Mississippi, which sold cleaning chemicals for the computer chip industry. Charles made his career in chemical and fertilizer sales and last worked as Vice President of Sales for First Mississippi.

Charles was an avid golfer and liked to fish. He was extensively involved in the alumni program at Texas Tech. Charles honorably served his country in the United States Army. He was married to Delores Gibson and they have one adult son.

Charles passed away in December 2011.
