Jerry and Pat Zimmerman Lawrence Memorial Endowed Scholarship

The Jerry and Pat Zimmerman Lawrence Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established in memory of Jerry and Pat Lawrence by family and friends in 1983.

Two scholarships are awarded annually to student majoring in Education and Agricultural Sciences. One recipient is selected by the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources and one student is selected by the College of Education.

Jerry L. Lawrence, the son of Mr. and Mrs. A.L. Lawrence of Aspermont, Texas, graduated from Texas Tech with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education in 1976. Patricia Zimmerman Lawrence, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.T. Zimmerman of Burkburnett, Texas, graduated from Texas Tech with a bachelor's degree in Secondary Education also in 1976.

Mrs. Lawrence was a reading teacher in Muleshoe Junior High School. She was in her second year of teaching. Her husband was in his first year of teaching as a teacher of vocational agriculture in the Muleshoe High School. He had previously been employed at Fry & Cox, Inc. local farm equipment dealer. They had been married little over one year.

The couple were asphyxiated from carbon-monoxide poisoning in their home on October 29, 1980 due to a faulty pilot in their central heating unit and a vent that was not installed properly.
