The Texas Tech Farmhouse Fraternity Scholarship was established by Bruce and Kathy Maunder in 2017. Scholarships are awarded to students of any undergraduate classification who are members, pledge or active, of FarmHouse Fraternity at Texas Tech and exhibit good character, show leadership and are in good academic standing. Preference is given to students who are enrolled in the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources.

FarmHouse is a social fraternity founded at the University of Missouri on April 15, 1905. It became a national organization in 1921. Today FarmHouse has 34 chapters/colonies/interest groups in the United States and Canada.

FarmHouse promotes the growth and welfare of our members through a four-fold focus of intellectual, social/moral, spiritual and physical development. Such occurs when brothers – both students and alumni – gather together in a learning environment which inspires continued improvement as a scholar and as a gentleman of high character. Such affiliation encourages success in one's career, in one's personal relationships and in one's community and civic engagement.

FarmHouse sows the seed today which will, with time and nurture, produce the leaders of tomorrow's world: the researchers, the teachers, the academics, the statesmen, the farmers, the business executives, the community leaders, and the professional men of the future whose task it will be to solve societal challenges.

To build men during their collegiate experience and throughout life, the Fraternity promotes members to live our principals in our daily actions, as reflected in our name – Faith, Ambition, Reverence, Morality, Honesty, Obedience, Unity, Service and Excellence – FARMHOUSE.

The goal of a member should be not only to uphold these principals and the ideals and reputation he inherits, but to improve and expand them, for to stand still, to maintain status quo is to take a step backward.

Dr. Maunder accepted a sorghum breeding position with DEKALB Genetics in Lubbock in 1960 with responsibility for worldwide sorghum improvement, having products from this program in as many as 49 countries and grown on as many as 10 million acres. He became a Senior Vice President of DEKALB in 1991, retiring after 37 years in 1996. Following active plant breeding, he accepted an offer to volunteer with the National Sorghum Producers for 20 years as a Research Advisor and Manager of the National Sorghum Foundation.

Dr. Maunder served as an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences at Texas Tech University. He received the Outstanding Agriculturist Award in 1974 from the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources and is a former member of the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources Advisory Board. He also held numerous national positions: President of the Crop Science Society; Board of the Diversity magazine; World Food Prize under Dr. Norman Borlaug his favorite mentor; and the Sorghum Crop Germplasm Committee of the USDA. For some 21 years, he was active with the US/AID INTSORMIL program as Chair of the External Evaluation Panel.

He, together with his wife Kathy, were able to support scholarships and other funds at some seven universities. In addition to university funds, the National Sorghum Foundation annually awards the Bruce Maunder Sorghum Leadership Scholarship to a well-deserved recipient. He and Kathy also spent the last 14 years volunteering and meeting wonderful people at their local Meals on Wheels.

Dr. Maunder passed away 2019. He was preceded in death by his father Addison Maunder, his mother Marie Maunder, and his brother Edward Maunder to all of whom he owes so much. He is survived by his wife Kathy Maunder, his son Chris Maunder (Allison), daughter Lynda March-Greenstreet (Gary), and her children Jonathan March (Mike Sanchez), Stephen March, and Austin March (Kira) with their children Benjamin and Lana.
