Pendleton Endowed Scholarship in Range and Wildlife Management

The Pendleton Scholarship Endowment in Range and Wildlife Management was established by Mr. and Mrs. Donald T. Pendleton in 1990. The scholarship is awarded to undergraduate and graduate students of any classification majoring in the Department of Range and Wildlife Management.

Mrs. Pendleton (Bettejoe Rogers) was born on January 6, 1937 and died January 25, 2006. She was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Bernice Rogers and a brother Sammy Rogers. The Pendleton's did not have any children. Bettejoe's will leaves a substantial portion of her community property estate to further support this scholarship endowment. Also generously named in her will are Texas Women's University in Denton, Texas; Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas; the Society for Range Management; the Texas Section of the Society for Range Management; and St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Breckenridge, Texas.

Don Pendleton was born in Breckenridge, Texas on December 19, 1933 and grew up on a stock farm in Stephens County, Texas. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Range Management from Texas Technological College in 1957 and a Master's degree in Public Administration from Harvard University in 1974. Don's professional career was with the Soil Conservation Service (now the Natural Resources Conservation Service) were he became the National Range Conservationist in 1976. He also served in foreign assignments in Sudan and Senegal. Don was one of the first graduates from the Department of Natural Resources Management to be designated as a Distinguished Agricultural Alumnus of Texas Tech University.
