Lubbock Chapter of Safari Club International Graduate Fellowship

The Lubbock Chapter of Safari Club International Graduate Fellowship was established by the Lubbock Chapter of Safari Club International in 2006. The purpose of this fellowship is to support graduate students in the Department of Range and Wildlife Management.

The two main areas of focus of the Safari Club International are protecting hunters' rights and promoting wildlife conservation. Before 1972, there were several chapters of safari clubs across the country made up of local, unaffiliated groups. This changed when a member from a like-minded club in Chicago visited a Safari Club meeting in Los Angeles. After this meeting, it was decided to make the club in Chicago an affiliated chapter. Less than a year later, the Safari Club of Los Angeles changed its name to Safari Club International (SCI). SCI continues to reach out to other independent safari clubs throughout the United States in an effort to combine them into a single organization. Interest has grown into a worldwide network and involvement in chapters has reached nearly 50,000 members in 170 chapters. Many chapters establish local scholarships, like the Lubbock Chapter of Safari Club International Graduate Fellowship, to further support their two areas of interest, especially promoting wildlife conservation.
