Q: What is the maximum number of hours that will transfer?
A: One less hour than half of what your specific degree program requires. For example, if your program requires 120, the maximum number of hours that would transfer would be 59 from a two year community college. If the student is transferring from a four year university then the last 30 hours must be taken at Tech.
Q: Who is a transfer student?
A: Students who have attended another accredited college beyond high school graduation.
Q: When is the transfer application deadline, and when will I be notified of Tech’s decision?
A: The deadlines are March 1 for the summer or Fall Semesters and November 1 for the Spring Semester.
Q: Does it matter if I am transferring from a two- or four-year college?
A: No.
Q: Does it matter to which agriculture major I apply?
A: No, once you have been admitted to Tech you will be admitted to any major within CASNR.
Q: When will I find out how many of my credits will transfer to Tech?
A: Transcripts are evaluated within two to three weeks after the student is admitted. The student may check their eraider account to see what credits transferred. Questions about transfer credit or petitions for credit are handled by Ramona Johnson, Coordinator of Undergraduate Programs (806) 742-2808, ramona.johnson@ttu.edu.
Q: How are decisions made for transfer students?
A: Requirements for transfer students are handled by the Texas Tech Office of Admissions.
Q: Does CASNR require any standardized test scores of transfer applicants?
A: No, admission to the University is based off of the student’s transfer GPA. Students transferring with 23 or less credits in general need to have a 2.5 GPA and students transferring with 24 or more credits generally need to have a 2.25.
Q: Are there any special requirements for international transfer applicants?
A: Yes, but just the University requirements there are no special requirements within CASNR. Refer to the University Catalog page 21 for details.
Q: If I receive AP, transfer, or credit by examination from my current institution, will that automatically transfer to Tech?
A: Scores will need to be sent to Tech; they will not be awarded off the transcript of a student’s current institution.
Q: If my transcript and/or course descriptions are not in English, what should I do?
A: They must be translated in certified English.
Q: Are course descriptions required as part of the transfer application?
A: No. However, if no articulation agreements exist, descriptions would be helpful in determining which courses will transfer.
