Animal and Food Sciences leaders honor outstanding alumni, special contributors

Texas Tech’s Department of Animal and Food Sciences highlighted its outstanding alumni and special contributors on Friday (Oct. 17) at a special 350-person event held in the department’s livestock arena. Eight award winners were honored as well as members of the 1984, 1994 and 2004 Meat Judging Teams and the 2009 Wool Judging Team.  more »

GALLERY: 53rd Annual Homecoming Breakfast highlights annual celebration

Friends and colleagues from across the Texas Tech campus were on hand today (Oct. 18) for the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources’ 53rd Annual Homecoming Breakfast. Held in the newly renovated Red Raider Ballroom of Tech’s Student Union Building, the Saturday morning event drew more than 250 participants. Later that day Davis Webb threw for 288 yards and three touchdowns to lead Texas Tech to a 34-21 win over Kansas.  more »

First Time; National Block & Bridle Convention set for Oct. 23-25 at Tech

Texas Tech University will host the 95th Annual National Block and Bridle Convention on Oct. 23-25. Bringing together hundreds of college students from Block and Bridle clubs across the nation, the event offers an opportunity for participants to network with peers and further their education of agriculture. Marcos Sanchez-Plata joins Tech’s Department of Animal and Food Sciences

Marcos Sanchez-Plata, an expert in the development, coordination and delivery of international food safety training programs, has been named an associate professor in Texas Tech University’s Department of Animal and Food Sciences, according to officials within the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. He officially stepped into his new teaching and research post on Oct. 1.  more »

Texas Tech’s Therapeutic Riding Center receives Gypsy Vanner Horse

The Texas Tech University Therapeutic Riding Center (TTRC) was awarded a Gypsy Vanner horse through a Facebook contest this summer. After more than two months in Lubbock, the horse – which riders chose to name Gypsy – is already impacting the program and its members.  more »

National Honor; AFS’s Rathmann wins NARRU Young Educator Award

Outstanding teaching in and out of the classroom has landed Ryan Rathmann, an assistant professor within Texas Tech’s Department of Animal and Food Sciences, the Non-Land-Grant Agricultural and Renewable Resources Universities’ (NARRU) Distinguished Young Educator Award, university officials announced today (Oct. 8).  more »

Red Raiders wanting to celebrate upcoming homecoming festivities don’t have to leave campus to find unique food with some Texas Tech flare. With the help of Adrian Rodriguez, manager of the COWamongus! restaurant inside the Animal and Food Sciences Building, the menu underwent some changes recently. The biggest was to focus on burgers.  more »
