A food safety and public health research team with Texas Tech’s Department of Animal and Food Sciences has received $100,000 for Salmonella research from animal-health company Zoetis. Six students from Texas Tech’s College of Agriculture and Natural Resources will be spending the summer working as interns in the nation’s capital. Food safety experts report that the nation’s beef industry has done a remarkable job of dealing with carcass contamination involving E. coli. Incidences of E. coli O157 positives in ground beef sampling have dropped by more than 90 percent in the last decade, but the same decline hasn’t been seen in the incidence of Salmonella in ground beef. more »
Texas Tech’s Ranch Horse Team rode to its fourth national title last month (Apr. 19-20) at the American Stock Horse Association National Collegiate Championship Show in Abilene.
