Rodeo rolls into Lubbock: Action gets underway at Tech Equestrian Center

Residents of the South Plains are gearing up for a rodeo road trip. Scheduled for Oct. 21-23, the Texas Tech Rodeo will feature top collegiate athletes from 15 Southwestern schools competing in fan favorite events like bareback riding, barrel racing and saddle bronc riding.  more »


Barrel racers lead Texas Tech rodeo teams to strong showing at Sul Ross State

image image Led by a strong riding in the barrel racing events, Texas Tech’s women’s rodeo team rolled to a third place finish over the weekend at the Sul Ross State University rodeo in Alpine. Held at the Turner Range Animal Science Center’s S.A.L.E. Arena, the meeting was the Red Raiders second Southwest Region National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association event of the season.  more »


Viewpoint: Distinguished lecture series brings noted plant breeders to campus

image image Nationally recognized plant breeder Stan Cox shed light on the daunting challenge of breeding perennial grain crops as part of a new Texas Tech’s Department of Plant and Soil Science Distinguished Lecture Series launched this semester. Speaking to an audience of students and faculty Sept. 27 at the Escondido Theater in Tech’s Student Union Building, the senior research scientist and coordinator of research at The Land Institute related his work to increased food and ecosystem security.  more »


Texas Tech rodeo teams shine at Eastern New Mexico University Rodeo

Texas Tech’s rodeo teams kicked off their fall season with a strong showing over the weekend at the Eastern New Mexico University ‘College Daze Rodeo’ at the Lewis Cooper Arena in Portales, NM. Both Tech men’s and women’s teams took second place at this the first Southwest Region National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association event of the season.  more »


Bird dog training demo highlights Quail-Tech field day at historic 6666 Ranch

image image Producers squeezed by declining quail populations can see innovative quail management techniques, along with a special bird dog training demonstration during an Oct. 23 field day at the legendary 6666 Ranch near Guthrie. The event is hosted by the Quail-Tech Alliance, a partnership between Texas Tech’s natural resources management department and Quail First, a Dallas-based non-profit quail conservation organization.  more »
