Jean Stephans Kavanagh, an associate professor in Texas Tech University’s Department of Landscape Architecture, died Jan. 25 after a brief battle with cancer. She was 61. (more…)

Domestic and international participants in the cotton and textile industry across the globe can now start planning for the next Texas International Cotton School, which officials said will be held August 11-22 at Texas Tech University’s International Textile Center in Lubbock. (more…)

Texas Tech University’s International Textile Center laboratory complex recently added an additional 5,500-square-feet of laboratory space, according to program officials. With the new elbow room, all high-volume, heat-producing instruments for testing fibers and yarns at the research facility were relocated to the new space, and today the expanded laboratory is fully functional. Texas Tech’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources hosted its annual career fair Wednesday (Jan. 23) in the Student Union Building Ballroom. Jared Lay, assistant director of University Career Services for the college, said approximately 40 companies from around the country participated to seek future employees and possible interns. Randy Allen, a professor of molecular biology in Texas Tech University’s Department of Plant and Soil Science, was named the winner of the 2007 Cotton Biotechnology Award last week at the Cotton Improvement Conference, which was part of this year’s Beltwide Cotton Conferences in Nashville. (more…)

A group of researchers working on sequencing the cotton genome has won the 2007 Texas Tech Research Development Fund Competition. Thea Wilkins (top), Bayer Crop Science Regents Professor in Genomics, leads a group of seven co-principal investigators on the project which won the $999,000 grant. (more…)
