Sara Gragg and Evan Chaney, doctoral students from Tech’s Department of Animal and Food Sciences, were presented the top two Food and Environmental Safety awards for outstanding research presentation at the annual meeting of the Conference of Research Workers in Animal Diseases held in Chicago, Dec. 4-6. Texas Tech researchers are teaming up with United Supermarkets on a $295,000 project that aims to address some of today’s most preventable sources of cancer – obesity, tobacco use and sunburn – in the Panhandle communities of Dalhart and Muleshoe. If successful, similar intervention programs could be replicated in other communities across the state. (more…)

Students from Texas Tech’s Department of Plant and Soil Science captured first place in the team competition and third overall today (Nov. 11) at the Students of Agronomy Soils & Environmental Sciences Region IV Collegiate Soil Judging Contest in College Station. The team’s overall finish earned it the opportunity to compete in the National Soil Judging Contest next spring at the University of Wisconsin. (more…)

Texas Tech’s Ag Council is doing its part to help provide canned goods to the South Plains Food Bank during this holiday season. On Wednesday (Dec. 7) more than 3,954 pounds of food were collected by members of the organization at their monthly meeting in the Animal and Food Sciences Building. (more…)

Ryan Rathmann, one of the nation’s top livestock judging team coaches, has been selected as the first John W. and Doris Jones Endowed Professor in Texas Tech University’s Department of Animal and Food Sciences. The honor, funded from a gift from the G. R. White Trust, was presented during a special presentation today (Dec. 5) at the university’s animal and food sciences building. (more…)
