In Profile: AFS’s Hunter Cleveland tracks down path to medical school

While some Texas kids learn to ride before they can walk, others like Hunter Cleveland take a different route in choosing a major from Texas Tech’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. Coming out of high school, about the only thing the League City native definitely knew was that his academic career path needed to eventually take him to medical school. (more…)

 

Shirley L. and LuCille Garrison Endowed Chair goes to AEC’s Steve Fraze

The chairman of Texas Tech’s Department of Agricultural Education and Communications has been named the Shirley L. and LuCille Garrison Endowed Chair in Rural Youth Development. Steve Fraze was presented the honor Thursday (Feb. 23) at a special presentation and reception at the university’s McKenzie Merket Alumni Center. (more…)

 

AAEC’s Langford selected for President’s Congressional Internship Program

A senior with Texas Tech’s Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics has been selected to take part in educational service to the nation’s capital through the Office of the President Congressional Internship Program. CRP Focus; Texas Tech soil research team receives $480,000 USDA-NIFA grant

A multi-disciplinary team of agricultural scientists from Texas Tech has been awarded a $480,000 grant to study Lubbock area soil microbial communities, looking for key indicators of soil carbon transformations when Conservation Reserve Program land is converted to cropland. The five-year project is being funded under the USDA’s Agriculture and Food Research Initiative. (more…)

 

CASNR distinguished alumni honored at McKenzie Merket Alumni Center

Texas Tech University’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources recognized six distinguished alumni at 6 p.m. Monday (Feb. 20) at the university’s McKenzie Merket Alumni Center. The Distinguished & Young Alumni Awards honor alumni who have made significant contributions to society, and whose accomplishments and careers have brought distinction to the college and to the professions associated with agriculture and natural resources. Academic Excellence; CASNR students selected for Dean’s Scholars Awards

Top academic standouts from Texas Tech’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources were recognized as 2011-2012 Dean’s Scholars on Friday (Feb. 10) at the Merket Alumni Center. The awards, funded by various donations to the college, are based on academic excellence as well as leadership, character and citizenship. (more…)

 

Professional Development; Tech ACT hosts national collegiate conference

More than 100 agricultural communications students from across the nation were on the Texas Tech campus Feb. 23-25 to attend the National Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow’s Professional Development Conference. Primarily held in the university’s student union building, the program featured educational sessions, speakers and tours of agricultural gems around the Hub City. (more…)
