Food science alum receives Campbell’s Excellence in Leadership Award
Texas Tech graduate Emily Wolter has been selected to receive the Institute of Food Technologists Student Association Campbell’s Excellence in Leadership Award, officials with the university’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources announced today (May 1). The honor will be presented next month at the group’s annual conference in Las Vegas.
“Emily is the first student from Texas Tech to receive this honor, and we’re very proud that she’s being recognized with this well-deserved award,” said Leslie Thompson, chairman of Tech’s Department of Animal and Food Sciences. Wolter graduated in December of 2011.
During her time at Tech, Wolter was an academically outstanding student and clearly had leadership skills, Thompson said. Wolter was president of Tech’s Food Technologist Club and represented the university at numerous national events.
Wolter is currently enrolled as a graduate student at North Carolina State University where she’s pursuing a master’s degree in food chemistry. She said her ultimate goal is to be a research and development scientist for a food company.
Program officials indicated that the purpose of the IFTSA-Campbell’s Excellence in Leadership Award was to recognize students who’ve demonstrated exemplary leadership in their execution of student activities at the chapter, regional and national level. Campbell’s Soup Company is a global manufacturer and marketer of soup, baked snacks and vegetable-based beverages.
