Above and Beyond: AFS’s Brooks tapped for Professing Excellence Award

An outstanding instructor and veterinarian with Texas Tech’s Department of Animal and Food Sciences has been selected to receive a Professing Excellence Award. The honor will be presented to Tiffanie Brooks in a special ceremony on Wednesday (Mar. 20) at the Red Raider Lounge in the university’s Student Union Building.

“These awards are given to outstanding faculty who go above and beyond – both inside and outside the classroom – to impact their students’ learning and academic success,” said Mike Galyean, dean of Tech’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.

Presented by Tech’s University Student Housing office, Brooks is one of 10 Professing Excellence Award honorees selected this year. Each year, the housing office provides students living in the residence halls at Texas Tech the opportunity to nominate outstanding instructors for their dedication and commitment to student learning. From the nominations, a committee of students selected ten individuals to receive the award.

Prior to joining the Texas Tech faculty as an attending veterinarian and instructor in 2008, Brooks worked as an associate veterinarian at Lubbock’s Acres North Veterinary Hospital and earlier as an associate veterinarian with the Cleveland Veterinary Clinic in Oklahoma.

She received her bachelor’s and her master’s degrees in animal science from Texas Tech.  Her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine is from Texas A&M University. She is a member of the American Association of Laboratory Animal Science, Texas Society of Biomedical Research and American Veterinary Medical Association. Awards for Brooks include CASNR Instructor Award (2010).
