‘Chew on This’ tour stops at AFS arena; Sustainable production, food safety focus

In an effort to raise awareness of world hunger and other food issues, a nation-wide tour made a stop in Lubbock on Friday (Apr. 26) at the Texas Tech Livestock Arena parking lot. More than 600 students, faculty, staff and guests participated in what program sponsors called the, “Chew on This Tour.”

Part of “The Drive to Feed the World” campaign, the mobile unit was aimed at teaching participants more about improving problems with world hunger, food safety and food quality. Event organizers said it also pointed out the work of farmers in the United States.

The tour, a collaborative effort between Elanco Animal Health and Nutra Blend, featured two tractor trailers, one a movie theater on wheels and the other a mobile BBQ kitchen. This year the road show is stopping at universities, feed mills, fairs and other civic events throughout the United States to spread the word about world hunger and sustainable food production. Participants had a barberque meal, and watched a short film hosted by professional wrestler Bill Goldberg. Nutra Blend is a distributor in the U.S. of feed micro-ingredients including vitamins, minerals and other nutrient additives. Elanco focuses on animal health, and is a division of Eli Lilly and Company.
