Turfgrass Field Day set for July 21 at Texas Tech Quaker Research Farm

Turfgrass Field Day set for July 21 at Texas Tech Quaker Research Farm

Growing and maintaining top-flight turf will be in the spotlight Monday (July 21) at a Turfgrass Field Day at the Texas Tech University’s Quaker Research Farm. Registration for the half-day program at 200 N. Quaker Ave. begins at 7 a.m., and the presentations begin about an hour later.

The Turfgrass Field Day typically draws green industry professionals such as landscapers and golf course superintendents, said program officials. However, homeowners who are interested in learning how to maintain a healthy lawn are encouraged to attend. Attendance for the event is free, and lunch will be provided for participants.

The event is sponsored by Texas Tech’s Department of Plant and Soil Science and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension. Presentations are scheduled on golf and athletic turf including wetting agent demonstration; plant growth regulators; pre-emerge herbicide; sodium removal from soils; irrigation audit demonstration; and carbon sequestration.

Separately, there will be presentations on commercial and residential lawn care including buffalograss herbicide tolerance; introduction to drip system for turf; native plants for landscape; calibration demonstrations; irrigation audit demonstration; and general management practices.
