Irrigation Management; TAWC Summer Field Day set for Aug. 14 in Floyd County

Texas Tech’s International Center for Agricultural Competitiveness Director Darren Hudson is one of the featured speakers set to participate in the latest edition of the Texas Alliance for Water Conservation’s 2014 Summer Field Day. The free, annual event, which focuses on irrigation management technology, takes place from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. on Thursday (Aug. 14) at the Floyd County Unity Center, located on HWY 70 half-way between Lockney and Floydada.

Producers, irrigation consultants, and researchers will all be on hand to discuss irrigation management techniques and answer any questions you may have, program organizers said. Among the scheduled discussion topics are:

• Water planning in Texas and how agriculture fits into the equation
• Demonstration of the farm bill decision aid
• Bollgard II Xtend Flex cotton cropping system
• 2014 crop outlook (AAEC’s Darren Hudson)
• Eddie Teeter farm tour (Aqua Check; John Deere Field Connect; AquaSpy; Smartfield; and Moisture Probe and ET Demo)

Following a luncheon at Muncy’s Floyd County Unity Center, an update will be provided from Texas Water Development Board, followed by a discussion on options on rebuilding your cow herd. TAWC Summer Field Day sponsors include AquaSpy, Bamert Seed, Bayer Crop Science, DSI Irrigation Services, DuPont Pioneer, EcoDrip, Helena Chemical, Hurst Farm Supply, Netafim, Plains Cotton Growers, Texas Corn Producers, Texas Grain Sorghum Producers, and United Sorghum Checkoff.
