AFS’s Mindy Brashears receives IAFP Maurice Weber Laboratorian Award
A professor in Texas Tech’s Department of Animal and Food Sciences has been selected to receive the prestigious Maurice Weber Laboratorian Award from the International Association for Food Protection. Mindy Brashears, who also serves as director of Tech’s International Center for Food Industry Excellence, was presented the honor on Wednesday (Aug. 6) at a national meeting of the group in Indianapolis.
Program officials indicated that Brashears was tapped for the award in recognition of service for outstanding contributions in the laboratory and recognizes a commitment to the development of innovative and practical analytical approaches in support of food safety.
The award consists of a plaque and a $2,000 honorarium sponsored by Weber Scientific, and highlights a commitment to the development and/or application of innovative and practical analytical approaches in support of food safety.
Des Moines, Iowa-based International Association for Food Protection represents more than 4,000 food safety professionals committed to advancing food safety worldwide, program official claim. The association includes educators, government officials, microbiologists, food industry executives and quality control professionals. They’re reportedly involved in all aspects of growing, storing, transporting, processing and preparing all types of foods.
