CASNR Honors Banquet spotlights outstanding students at Merket Center
Dozens of outstanding students, staff and faculty from across Texas Tech's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources were honored Friday (Apr. 27) at its annual Honors Banquet at the Merket Alumni Center in Lubbock. Sponsored by the Ag Council, the event featured a variety of honors, including the selection of Loni Woolley, a senior from Grandview, as the college's outstanding student.
Recipients of the outstanding student departmental awards were:

- Loni Woolley; Animal and Food Sciences

- Shay Hlavaty; Natural Resources Management

Students with the highest academic achievement in their respective departments were:

Separately, new Ag Council leaders for the 2012-2013 were recognized. They were Brittany Blum, president; Trevor King, vice president; Valerie Manning, secretary; Paige Richards, treasurer; and Jacy Bradford, scribe. Student government senators Stephany Wines; John Hawley; and Charlie Stephens were also recognized.
Meanwhile, outstanding professor awards went to Scott Burris for Fall 2011 and Cindy Akers for Spring 2012. Outstanding staff members were Ramona Johnson for Fall 2011 and Kay Arellano for Spring 2012.
Ag Council members include the Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow; Agricultural Economics Association; Agri-Techsans; Agronomy Club; Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity; Ambassadors for Agriculture; American Society of Landscape Architects; Block & Bridle; Collegiate 4-H; and Collegiate FFA.
Other members are the Food Science Club; Horticulture Society; Meat Science Association; Pi Alpha Xi; Range, Wildlife and Fisheries Club; Sigma Alpha; Society for Conservation of Biology; Student Association for Fire Ecology; Tech Collegiate Horsemen's Association; Tech Pre-Vet Society; and Tech Turf.
