Swine Nutritionist joins Texas Tech's Animal and Food Sciences Department
Anoosh Rakhshandeh, a research scientist who specializes in swine nutrition and health, has been named an assistant professor in Texas Tech University's Department of Animal and Food Sciences, according to officials with the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. He officially stepped into his new teaching and research post on Friday (Feb. 1).
Rakhshandeh indicated that he's particularly interested in continuing his research efforts on nutrition and immune function. One of his goals is to develop nutritional strategies to mitigate the negative impact of stress on swine.
Prior to joining the Texas Tech faculty, Rakhshandeh served as a postdoctoral research associate at Iowa State University. He also worked as a graduate research assistant at the University of Guelph's Ontario Agricultural College. Earlier he was director of the nutrition department and production manager at the Zarbal Broiler Production Integration in Iran.
Rakhshandeh received his bachelor's degree in animal science and his master's degree in poultry nutrition from Azad University (Iran). His doctorate in swine nutrition and health is from University of Guelph (Canada). He is a member of American Society of Animal Science and American Society for Nutrition. Awards for Rakhshandeh include Class Action Vitamin Research Award (2008); Ontario Graduate Scholarship in Science and Technology (2007, 2008); and Ajinomoto Heartland/Halchemix Scholarship for Best Research in Amino Acid Nutrition in Monogastrics (2006, 2007).
