Texas Tech sets fall enrollment record; CASNR contributes 1,927 to total
Texas Tech's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources continued its record-setting student enrollment pace, maintaining last year's standout numbers with 1,927 students signing up for classes in the fall semester, university officials reported today (Sept. 20). CASNR tallied 1,577 undergraduate students and 350 graduate students.
"Thanks to the dedication of our faculty and staff, CASNR continues to make great strides," said CASNR Dean Michael Galyean.
The enrollment numbers for individual departments were:
" Department of Agricultural & Applied Economics: 408 (Grad: 31 /Undergrad: 377)" Department of Agricultural Education & Communications: 319 (Grad: 67 /Undergrad: 252)" Animal & Food Sciences: 585 (Grad: 86 /Undergrad: 499)" Department of Landscape Architecture: 86 (Grad: 11 /Undergrad: 75)" Natural Resources Management: 309 (Grad: 65 /Undergrad: 244)" Department of Plant & Soil Science: 209 (Grad: 87 /Undergrad: 122)" Agricultural Undecided: 11 (Grad: 3 /Undergrad: 8)
Last year CASNR reached a new benchmark in student enrollment with a record 1,850 students attending the High Plains campus. Historically, CASNR had one of its largest enrollments in the Fall of 1977 when 1,687 students were enrolled in the college, according to Ramona Johnson, CASNR's Coordinator of Undergraduate Programs.
Meanwhile, Texas Tech as a whole established another record enrollment with 33,111 students on campus for classes. The school set its previous enrollment record last fall with 32,480 students.
"These trends look very positive," said Tech President Duane Nellis. The new numbers include a record number of freshman, as well as record number of transfer students for the Fall. Nellis also reported an 82 percent student retention rate. Separately, Nellis stressed the importance of increasing efforts to make Tech a global campus, emphasizing online programs, out-of-state recruiting and pushing enrollment at regional sites like Fredericksburg.
