Texas Tech names new Associate Vice Provost for International Programs
Officials at Texas Tech University announced today (Jan. 17) that Sukant Misra will become Associate Vice Provost of International Programs effective Feb 1. Misra's new duties include increasing international enrollment, promoting international development, research and funding, and promoting a greater integration of matters that affect international academic programs with colleges and departments.
Misra has served as the associate dean for research for Tech's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources since 2002. Additionally, he has worked in a variety of faculty and administrative posts since joining the university as a faculty member in Tech's Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics in 1993. He will maintain a quarter-time appointment as a professor in the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics, where he plans to continue teaching.
"Over these 12 years, Dr. Misra's contributions and leadership in research and fiscal management have been remarkable, and he will be sorely missed," said Michael Galyean, dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. "We certainly congratulate him on this exciting next step in his career."
Prior to joining Tech, Misra was a researcher at the University of Georgia for three years. Beyond his service to the college and university, he has served in several local, state, regional and national positions with professional organizations involved in the advancement of the agricultural and natural resource industries.
He received his bachelor and master's degrees in analytical and applied economics from Utkal University, India. His second Master of Science degree and his doctorate in agricultural economics are from Mississippi State University.
