Womble Pre-Law Endowed Scholarship
The Womble Pre-Law Endowed Scholarship was created by the Dr. Bob and Jean Smith Foundation of Dallas, funds generated by the endowment will be used to assist CASNR students that are interested in going to law school. It was established in honor of Bill Womble in appreciation for his loyal, dedicated and continuous service as legal counsel to the foundation, and its predecessor Doctors Hospital of Dallas, for more than 40 years, and in recognition of his devotion to excellence, special expertise and professional accomplishments in corporate, securities and business law.
Womble, the descendant of a Texas Panhandle pioneer family, grew up in a large farming and ranching family based in Hutchinson and Hansford counties. He came to Tech in 1956, and graduated with a bachelor's degree (honors) in agricultural economics in 1960. Womble received his law degree from the University of Texas School of Law-Austin in 1963.
A practicing attorney in Dallas for more than 50 years, Womble served as a partner of, and subsequently of counsel with Thompson & Knight, LLP, a law firm headquartered in Dallas, where he has devoted his practice in principal part to complex business and financial transactions, including corporate securities regulation, mergers, acquisitions and dispositions of business entities, and related transactional business issues.
Womble was as a member of the National Board of Directors of the Texas Tech Alumni Association from 1992 to 1998, and was recognized as a distinguished alumnus by Texas Tech University and the Texas Tech Alumni Association in 2001.
